• Kirk Session & Congregational Board:
The spiritual affairs of the congregation are looked after by the Kirk Session, which is a group of elders elected by the congregation. They are responsible for seeing that worship takes place and for examining various laws which are sent down by the General Assembly. A lot of the elders have districts which means that pastorally they are responsible for looking after people within their district and visiting them, especially at Communion which is celebrated on the first Sunday in November and the last Sunday in April. Sometimes Elders will accompany the Minister to celebrate Communion in the home of someone who is ill or infirm. The Kirk Session meets every two months and the Session Clerk is Mr. Alan McLean. The temporal affairs of the congregation are looked after by the Congregational Board which consists of the members of the Session, plus members of the congregation who are elected at the Annual Stated Meeting of the Congregation (this takes place in March). The Board is responsible for looking after the various Church properties and also for overseeing the financial responsibilities of the congregation. The Clerk to the Board is Mr. John King.
• Newsletter Group:
The Newsletter Group was formed in 1965, the year after the union of the East and West Churches into St. Columba's. Over the years, the group has gone from srength to strength and has proved to be a reliable fundraiser for the Church. Monthly issues of the Newsletter are circulated for 10 months of each year, giving the readership all the local Church news as well as sharing contributions from members and friends. The Newsletter strives to reflect the lively and enthusiastic congregation that St. Columba's has become. Hugh Law is the current Editor, ably assisted by a loyal and hardworking team of distributors who work tirelessly to ensure the Newsletter is circulated promptly around the town. This publication is the Church's main item of local outreach and is well received by all its readers, whether within our Church family or beyond.
